"No Flash, No Myths, No Misconceptions, No Titles, No Belts, No Sport, No Nonsense".
This NEW site is a Free resource for practical self protection and safety tips. It is expert information collected from decades of experience and research in America and the martial art roots in Asia. This site will help counter misinformation spread by self-proclaimed or misguided "experts" teaching the one handed or frozen-hand attacker myths, un-real movie-style fighting, sport as street defense or illegal over-kill techniques. Many of these "experts" aren"t even close and are misguided or in many cases, self-promoting, ego boosting, money seeking frauds or self aggrandizers. It is a real problem and a public danger.
This website is for everyday people, students and teachers alike. Unfortunately, The majority of martial art classes available are actually: sport, kata-based, outdated, unrealistic, memorized scenarios or illegal over-kill. Sport, traditions and ancient weapon training are fine for a hobby, but different from the life and death dangers of today's world. Students and teachers alike often confuse this on some level.
The proper attitude, verbal skills, safety tips and escape skills are a big part of self-protection. Prevention and avoidance is most important. In the case of life or death, we teach K.I.S.S. ( Keep It Simple and Smart) - defense. For more information www.selfdefensetips.info/kiss, but we never teach sparring.
Martial Arts Myth: If you are good at sparring, you are ready for fighting.
Reality: Sparring is a game that is basically safe and controlled, and no matter how good you get, it isn't fighting. It is a totally different dynamic than real violence. It will teach you balance, movement, range and openings, but it will not prepare you to face death, adrenaline dumps and brutality.
This site will NOT show you how to "spar" an attacker. Most people don't have experience "really" hitting other people. Making
your punching debut with a violent street criminal, having no back ups, no police and no refs can be actually placing yourself in more danger. As seen in fighting sports, the one hit knockout shot(s are rare. What happens after you do an ineffective kick, wrist maneuver or punch on the thug? His (most likely) intoxication, rage, lack of feeling pain or empathy will infuriate him. Then what? Deep doo-doo, if you relied on a pain inducing technique or a one shot punch or kick is what.
The truth is, much of what is taught in most traditional styles of self defense should be much simpler, smarter and less power-based. Many systems of self defense teach high kicking, complicated wrist maneuvers, hard to hit pressure points, one shot power punches and other techniques that may work in a controlled environment of a class, organized competition or willing training partner, but most likely (less many years of diligent study and mental preparedness) wouldn't work under the stress of a real violent street attack. The current fad styles (sports) are aimed at Mesomorph body-types and not for most people. Remember we all get older by the day and are not always well or on our game, so simplicity and practicality should always be an ultimate goal.
